Innovation. Correctness. Soundness.Starting a book group is a great way to introduce a culture of learning into the IT organization. Great books are both plentiful and inexpensive. Contrast the cost of a $50 book to a $500 per day training session or conference. Then consider that the team member who attends the training session might never share any of the ideas that he or she learned. Book groups are about conversation. Book groups are generally safe places to express ideas and opinions. The conversation is idea-focused, as opposed to project-focused. We've seen book groups transform the nature of relationships in teams. The book group membership can be the same as department membership, or it can be built from interested people across the organization. We offer an annotated bibliography to get you started. |
